Why is my Beard Balm or Butter grainy or gritty?

Bearded Coast’s Beard Balm or Butter is crafted to keep your beard in top shape. Our products can naturally have a slight grain to them, but if you’ve noticed your balm or butter has developed a rougher grainy or "gritty" texture, don’t worry! This is completely normal and doesn’t affect the quality at all.

What you’re experiencing is likely a result of the organic butters we use, like Shea, Kokum, and Mango Butter, which contain different fatty acids that melt at varying temperatures. If the butter or balm cools too slowly, those fatty acids can solidify at different rates, causing the texture to change.

Does this affect the quality?
Not at all! Your balm or butter is still packed with the nourishing and conditioning goodness you love—just as effective as ever.

How to fix it:
To bring it back to its proper consistency, simply reheat the balm or butter. Gently melt it (using a double boiler or Pyrex in a water bath—avoid the microwave!), hold it at that temperature for about 20 minutes, and then place it in the freezer for about 20 minutes. This will allow it to cool down more quickly and evenly. We recommend letting it then sit at room temperature for a couple hours after to  restore it to its perfect texture.
